a retrospective
Lucy Kreisler Smith was born on June 15, 1933 in Kraków, Poland.
Lucy was six years old when the German army occupied Poland. She was forced out of school, as it was no longer allowed for Jewish children.
After the war she studied painting and graduated from the Warsaw Academy of Fine Arts in 1959.
She met an American man whom she married. She, her husband and infant son moved to America. Twice an immigrant, she became a young divorced mother with an infant and no means of support.
She then survived tuberculosis.
This retrospective of her work ranges from her life in Europe, then in America.
Her views on humanity and politics is particularly relevant right now.
This exhibition is a sample of her work. The exhibition includes paintings in oil and acrylic, her experiments with textile, pencil/charcoal drawings, and painted glass.
